All around the world, soccer is one of the most popular and most visible sports, for men and for women. This book delivers all the important information that players and fans want to know.
After a short look at the origins of the game, the book first focuses on the fundamental elements of the sport: the playing field, the ball and the players. Player positions are introduced, as well as a few current star players and soccer heroes. The basic shooting techniques and mechanics of the game are explained, as well as all the important rules of soccer, from offside to indirect free kicks. The largest soccer tournaments, including the FIFA World Cup and UEFA European Championship, are highlighted as well as club and professional soccer leagues. Youth soccer programs also play a central role, and life in a boarding school for soccer is introduced. A large, informational graphic explains how player transfers take place and answers the question “Why do soccer players cost millions?” The foldout pages grant a glimpse of what it looks like inside a stadium.
